Melissa Moore and the Moore Lab Members are broadly interested in post-transcriptional gene regulation in eukaryotes via mechanisms involving RNA. Our research currently focuses in four distinct, but interconnected areas: (1) structural and mechanistic analysis of spliceosomes; (2) the effects that RNA processing events in the nucleus have on downstream mRNA metabolism in the cytoplasm; (3) mRNA and rRNA surveillance systems and (4) RNA-based mechanisms that contribute to neurodegenerative disease. Snapshots of the U1 snRNP binding a surface-tethered pre-mRNA in yeast whole cell extract. Each spot represents a single U1 snRNP that has been fluorescently labeled using a chemical tagging system with a Cy3-trimethoprim conjugate.
