The Child and Adolescent NeuroDevelopment Initiative

The Child and Adolescent NeuroDevelopment Initiative (CANDI) is a research program at the University of Massachusetts Medical School dedicated to neuroimaging and treatment studies of youths with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and pervasive developmental disorders. Led by Jean Frazier, MD, Vice Chair for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, CANDI is one of few research sites in the country committed to working with some of the most severely mentally ill children, particularly those with psychotic disorders.

Several of these studies are multi-site efforts that involve institutions across the country and around the world. Together, we hope to help improve the understanding of these mental health conditions and help determine the best types of treatment, ultimately improving the lives of children and their families.
